Deaf Services
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) Office of Mental Health provides a statewide system of care for deaf and hard of hearing adults, children and families, promoting recovery and enhanced mental wellness where deafness presents a significant cultural and/or linguistic barrier.
BHDD Office of Mental Health Deaf Services provides the following services:
- Community-based mental health services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals who reside in South Carolina.
- Appropriate inpatient services for those deaf or hard of hearing individuals in need of that level of care, regardless of their age or physical condition.
- Appropriate housing services and support for individuals who, because of their mental health problems, are unable to sufficiently meet their own housing needs.
- Specialized mental health services for deaf children and their families, to enable them to grow and develop into effective and productive adults in society.
