BHDD Office of Mental Health Programs

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) Office of Mental Health offers a number of specialty mental health programs that enhance and expand upon our evidence-based outpatient counseling services and intensive inpatient treatment. These programs often represent one-of-a-kind offerings in South Carolina and are designed to improve access to care and to offer more robust levels of treatment, which have helped make BHDD Office of Mental Health a leader in mental health across the state and beyond.

BHDD Office of Mental Health provides psychiatric treatment for residents of South Carolina experiencing mental illness. BHDD Office of Mental Health provides children, adolescents, adults and families necessary inpatient and outpatient services which may include: emergency psychiatric services, assessments, case management, outpatient counseling and other psychiatric treatment. BHDD Office of Mental Health offers a wide variety of mental health treatment services for a broad range of problem areas, which include:

  • Alcohol and other drug addictions
  • Anxiety
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (Complicated with Significant Behavioral Problems)
  • Behavioral Problems
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Co-occurring Disorders
  • Depression
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
  • Suicide Risk
  • Thought Disorders (e.g., Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective)
  • Trauma

Priority is given to those with serious and persistent mental illness.
