BHDD's clinical staff provide a complete array of necessary mental health services for children, adolescents, adults and families in South Carolina. Following a thorough assessment, treatment plans are tailored to meet the needs of each individual patient. Services may include individual, group, and family therapy with a trained therapist, psychiatric medical assessments with a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner, supportive nursing services, crisis intervention, and more.

BHDD mental health centers provide a wide array of intensive mental health services to children, adolescents, adults, and families with severe symptoms of mental illness, substance use disorder (dual diagnosis), and/or emotional distress who are residents of South Carolina.

All BHDD mental health facilities are licensed or accredited by applicable accreditation groups.

All 16 BHDD community mental health centers are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services.
Morris Village Treatment Center, the BHDD's inpatient substance use disorder treatment facility, is licensed by the South Carolina Department of Public Health and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services.
BHDD's psychiatric hospitals are accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the South Carolina Department of Public Health.
BHDD's nursing home is licensed by the South Carolina Department of Public Health and certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

BHDD understands the public’s interest in visiting and photographing its historic properties; however, the agency cannot accommodate such requests. In accordance with state and federal laws to ensure the privacy of our patients, audio and visual recording are not allowed on active BHDD mental health premises.

This is in accordance with BHDD Office of Mental Health directives 858-06 and 837-03, and the following statutes: SC Code of Laws Sections 30-2-20 and 30-2-30: The Family Privacy Protection Act; SC Code of Laws Section 44-22-100 (A): Rights of Mental Health Patients: Confidentiality of records; exceptions; violations and penalties; SC Code of Laws Section 44-11-70 and 44-11-75: Organization and Control of State Mental Health Facilities; Code of Federal Regulations 45 C.F.R. § 160.103: Definitions (HIPAA Privacy Rule); Code of Federal Regulations 45 C.F.R. § 164.514(b): Other Requirements Relating to Uses and Disclosures of Protected Health Information (HIPAA Privacy Rule); and Code of Federal Regulations 42 CFR Part 2: Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Patient Records.
